Mason Mingus; Win-Tron Racing Reach Halfway Point In ARCA Competition

JOILET, Illinois (July 18, 2013) - - After a welcomed two-week break from ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards competition, the 61-year old tour resumes competition Sunday afternoon from Chicagoland Speedway for the running of the Ansell ActivArmr® 150.

The 11th Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) race on the calendar signifies the halfway point for Win-Tron Racing and freshman driver Mason Mingus. After 10 races this year, Mingus has delivered some astounding runs, which has included two runner-up performances and nine top-10 finishes. In fact, the team's worst finish of the year occurred at the most recent race at Winchester (Ind.) Speedway, where the Brentwood, Tennessee native scored 12th after being swept into a multi-car incident while leading.

Obviously, the outcome of the Herr's Chase The Taste 200 left the team wondering "what if", but as the Win-Tron Racing team has shown time and time again, they are able to pick themselves up from misfortune and bounce back quickly.

Rebounding is exactly what the team, led by former ARCA championship crew chief Mark Rette have, on their docket for Sunday afternoon with their No. 32 Diamond Equipment / Call 811 Before You Dig Toyota Camry.

But, before the 18-year old Mingus and his team can turn their concentration towards the "Windy City", they'll take a brief detour to Kentucky Speedway, just outside of Cincinnati on Thursday, July 18 to partake in an open-test session at the 1.5-mile oval in preparation for a race their later this fall.

Ironically, the intermediate tracks of Chicagoland Speedway and Kentucky Speedway are two venues that Mingus has yet to compete at. This weekend, thanks to a test and a 100-lap race, he'll inhale all the intermediate experience he can dream of.

"Chicago is a very important race for myself and the entire team," offered Mingus, who currently occupies second in the ARCA Racing Series championship standings behind nine-time champion Frank Kimmel. "It (Chicagoland) marks the halfway point in the season, meaning we can still get the points lead, if we stay on our "A" game. Having the opportunity to test at Kentucky, before we steer to Chicagoland, will help a lot. It gives me a chance to test at a bumpy mile and a half track similar to Chicago."

He added, "Realistically, we should have a shot at a top-five if not a win on Sunday. "We've been working in the shop during the break. My guys don't seem to miss a beat. Even though I've never been to a track like Chicagoland before, I know we'll have a car capable of running near the front."

With 11 races left, Mingus has a 175-point deficit to Kimmel for the race to the coveted title as an ARCA champion. While the margin isn't impossible to close, Mingus realizes that their typical race-weekend strategy may need to be tweaked a little.

"The championship is still our focus," sounded Mingus, who recently relocated to Mooresville, North Carolina to work alongside his team. "We have the same number of races to get the lead (back) as Frank had to build it. With that being said though, we're going to have to start having to be a little more aggressive and win races – all while trying to be consistent. It's going to be hard, but not impossible. Hopefully, Chicagoland will provide us with the right footing to keep our chances realistic."

Entering The Prairie State, the Tennessean has 23 ARCA Racing Series races to his credit. During that tenure, he has acquired three top-fives and 16 top-10 finishes, including second-place runs at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway and at Toledo Speedway in May 2013. Additionally, a pole run at Mobile (Ala.) International Speedway in March, is his best time trials effort to date.

The Ansell ActivArmr® 150 (100 laps / 150 miles) is the 11th of 21 events on the 2013 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule. The 13th ARCA race at Chicagoland is a two-day show. Practice begins Saturday, July 21 with an hour and fifty minute session planned from 4:10 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Menards pole qualifying presented by Ansell is set for the next afternoon slated to begin at 12:00 p.m. The event will take the green flag later in the day at 5:00 p.m. The race will be televised live on SPEED with additional coverage including timing and scoring will be available through the ARCA Racing Network (ARN) online at arcaracing.com. All times are local (Central).
